Marcos Visit 2002

Photo shoot

Don took Ned out for a run in his car. Amazingly, none of the Morrises had ever seen another Marcos, so it was an interesting experience for them and Ned seemed impressed by Don’s very smart V6.

While Ned was out, I climbed into the driving seat of the XP - I wanted to get a feel of what it would be like to sit behind the wheel. It was incredibly cramped, much more than snug, which the passenger seat had been. Tom suggested I start the car up. This proved a little more difficult than I imagined, as it needs you to turn the ignition on (via a simple turn switch between the driver's seat and the passenger's) and then pressing down a very inconspicuous button beside it. I was expecting a big red "START" button, so it too some direction to find the correct button. I then took a few attempts to get the engine started. It seemed happy enough to kick into life, but it needed a few revs to run happily. Once this was achieved though, it sat merrily and I blipped the throttle and imagined tearing down into Eau Rouge...

When Don returned we lined all three cars up, with the GTs flanking the XP and took a number of pictures. Next to the XP, the road cars actually looked big and there was little in their appearance to relate them to the racer, except the bonnet and tail badges and the Morris Minor sourced front indicator/sidelights.
